In 2015 two friends wanted to meet up for a coffee and a chat. But with four small and boisterous children between them, they couldn’t find anywhere that could accommodate their families and all the associated equipment and still serve them decent coffee and delicious treats...
...So... they decided to open one…. and thus, The Garden Window concept was born! It opened in a tiny English style garden in Isel House, Nelson’s most gracious heritage home, in February 2016.
They had a budget that would nearly get you lunch and existing family obligations but with help from family, friends and some local businesses (see below), they transformed the backyard garden into a bright and appealing sanctuary for all ages (dogs included).
It proved a hit and from there grew the idea that cafes could be more than just service providers and instead form the heart of a community.
As the Italians say “At the table with good friends and family you do not become old”
The Garden Window aims to be about more than getting a quick cup of coffee. The local based events engender a community spirit where families and individuals can come and get to know their neighbours, establish connections and make new relationships of their own.
We work with local providers and a few select national and international stockists to provide you with the best of local and less obtainable offerings.
